Golf Injuries

Do you have a golf injury and want quick and natural treatment to enable you to get back on the golf course as soon as possible?

At Thorpes Physiotherapy, we specialise in diagnosing, rehabilitating and maintaining golf-related injuries, ensuring you receive the best level of care possible for quick and effective recovery.

While there are many types of golf injuries, the most common are:

Lower Back Pain – This condition is one of the most common complaints we hear and is caused by the significant stress the lower back is put under during repetitive golf-swinging motions. This potentially will lead to muscle strains, ligament inflammation or disc injuries.

Elbow Injuries – Golfer’s elbow is another prevalent condition and occurs due to repetitive gripping and swinging motions that lead to inflammation of the tendons on the inside of the elbow.

Knee Pain – The stress on the knee during a golf swing can lead to conditions like meniscal tears or ligament strains. Proper conditioning, wearing supportive footwear, and using correct techniques can mitigate these risks.

Dealing With A Golf Injury...

Dealing with golf pain can be extremely frustrating, not just because the pain will limit the amount of time you can spend on the fairway, but also the limitations it places on your everyday life. Persistent pain and discomfort can severely hinder your routine tasks, disturb your sleep and reduce your overall quality of life. It can isolate you from your friends and family, put strain on your relationships and can lead to severe stress and anxiety. The psychological impact of being unable to play your favourite sport can sometimes be more devastating than the physical restrictions a golfing injury can inflict.

You may have already tried painkillers or injections to fix the problem, but these modalities only mask the symptoms and don’t address the root cause of the problem. You may have also tried resting in the hopes the pain will “magically” disappear. Unfortunately, this rarely happens and will simply cause your joints to stiffen and weaken, delaying recovery and making rehabilitation more challenging.

Many of our patients initially believed their golf injuries were due to their age, with some even told by their doctors that it is to be expected when you reach a certain age. There are many factors that contribute to the risk of injury, and with proper attention to technique, conditioning and overall health, the likelihood of injuries can be significantly reduced – regardless of how old you may be. At Thorpes Physiotherapy, we believe you should be able to enjoy an active social life for as long as possible and with our tailored treatment programs, we help hundreds of golfers return to the course pain-free.
