Are you suffering from Tendon Problems in Sandhurst or Fleet?

Thorpes Physiotherapy is here to help!

At Thorpes Physiotherapy, we have been managing tendon problems for many years and like to think we are very effective at treating them. There are certain tendon pathologies that are very common, and we see at the clinic all the time – one of these is the rotator cuff in the shoulder. Rotator cuff pathologies is the most common shoulder problem we see and its very prevalent in people over the age of 40. It may cause pain and difficulty with putting weight through the shoulder, such as when doing yoga positions or press-ups. You might struggle to lift your arm to shoulder height, reach for something on a top shelf, or reach over to turn off a light at night.

Another very common tendon problem that we see if lateral elbow tendinopathy (otherwise known as is tennis elbow). While we see it in people who play tennis, this isn’t the most common cause of the condition, as it’s more likely to be caused by a sudden increase in gardening or DIY where you might notice pain on the outside of your elbow.

Further down the body, Achilles tendon problems at the back of the lower leg are very common. We see it in people who like to run, as well as those who enjoy long walks. If you’re struggling with walking due to pain and potential swelling in the tendon, it could be an Achilles tendon problem.

If you’re currently suffering from tendon pain, we want to reassure you that you are not alone; we help people recover from tendon pain all the time. Understanding tendon problems is key to their management, and we will help you with techniques and exercises that work to keep you pain-free.

When we see a client struggling with a tendon problem, they have often had the problem for a while before coming to see us. This is likely because our clients are health-conscious and have gone online to research their symptoms and potential cures. A common scenario is people with Achilles tendon problems who find some exercises online, like heel drops over the edge of a step, but end up making the pain worse.

Exercise is important, but it must be the right exercise at the right stage in the healing process. Our clients often say they have tried painkillers, which help in the short term but don’t provide a long-term solution because they don’t address the root cause of the problem. They may have been prescribed stronger painkillers by their GP or told to rest. We often say to our clients that tendons are like your most boring friends – they don’t like change, whether it’s a sudden increase or decrease in activity, and too much is often harmful to tendons.

Our clients may have been referred for NHS physio but have had to wait months for it, or experienced long gaps between sessions. For whatever reason, the treatment they’ve received hasn’t worked by the time they come to us and they’re looking for a different approach, which is what we provide.

If this sounds like you then you are in the right place. We focus on gaining an accurate diagnosis and then utilise cutting-edge treatments implementing the latest tendon research. We have extensive experience in treating a variety of tendon conditions and are dedicated to helping our clients achieve their goals. No two tendon problems are the same and so one treatment does not fit all. Your individualised treatment plan will vary according to your specific problem.

Following your assessment, you will receive an accurate and detailed diagnosis of your tendon problem. Your comprehensive rehabilitation program is designed to address any strength and stiffness deficits that are causing your tendon pain. Your programme is tailored to your individual needs and personalised to help achieve your goals, be it walking to the shop or running a marathon!
