Advanced Running Analysis: Thorpes Run Lab

Run Lab is our unique, specialised service for runners that uses the latest technology to gather data about individual running styles and biomechanics. Our comprehensive analysis comprises three key components:

Play Video

1. Vi-Move Analysis

Our state-of-the-art, wireless sensors are placed on your body to provide biomechanical information directly to our computer software. This cutting-edge technology allows us to gather precise data on your running mechanics.

2. Slow Motion Video

We film you running and slow the footage down to 1/8th of real-time speed. This enables both you and our experts to thoroughly analyse every aspect of your running style, identifying any inefficiencies or areas of concern.

3. Biomechanical Tests

Based on the latest research, we have developed a series of tests to assess muscle strength and flexibility. These tests help us identify any weak areas that may need addressing to improve your running performance and reduce the risk of injury.

The entire procedure takes one hour. You will leave with a printed report of the findings and an action plan to address any identified issues. Depending on the results, you may require a course of treatment or be given a strengthening programme. Most patients are reviewed 4-6 weeks after the initial consultation using the same testing methods to monitor improvements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring?
Come in your normal running attire such as trainers, shorts, a t-shirt, and a towel. Water is available in reception, but if you usually run with water, bring a bottle for convenience.

Can the Run Lab benefit me if I’m not currently injured?
Absolutely. Whether or not you have suffered a running-related injury in the past, Run Lab can benefit you in several ways. We can identify muscle imbalances, including poor muscle length or strength, that need to be addressed. A detailed gait analysis will highlight any aspects of your running form that may need adjustment. Finally, we can implement a personalised training schedule, including relevant strength and conditioning exercises.

Why do I need another gait assessment if I already had one when I bought my running shoes?
Gait analysis in running stores is often brief and primarily focuses on load distribution to help you choose appropriate footwear. Run Lab offers a more detailed examination of your running form from head to toe, slowed down to 1/8th speed. We provide data such as cadence, step rate, and weight distribution, which helps our clinicians teach you the necessary cues to alter your gait, if required.
