Please take your time to view our FAQs and see if your question can be answered!

Do you have a waiting list?

No, we try to be as flexible as we can with our working hours. We believe that quick access is crucial to a faster recovery.

How long does a treatment take?

An assessment is usually 45 minutes although a longer appointment time is recommended if you have a complex condition or more than one condition. Follow-up appointments are usually 30 minutes, although once again, these may be longer for a complex condition, or if more than one condition is being treated.

Do I need to see a doctor first?

No, chartered physiotherapists are autonomous professionals and are trained in assessing and diagnosing physical problems. If we feel we need more information or feel you may need medical investigations we will ask to contact your GP. If you have private medical insurance you should contact them before attending physiotherapy as they may require a referral from your doctor to validate your case.

How many treatments will I need?

This is very variable and not always easy to predict on the first treatment. As a general rule the longer you have had a problem the longer it takes to sort out but six visits is about average.

How often will I need to come?

Your condition could fall into one of the following categories:

a) You may be able to manage yourself after just one session with advice on how to exercise.

b) Some conditions respond best if seen twice a week at first to build on the healing response.

c) If you need to build up muscles by specific exercises it may be best to give you 2 to 3 weeks practice then review and progress the regime.

d) Some people with an underlying problem come for a regular session about once a month to help keep control of the condition.

Whichever category you are in remember that we can advise from our training and experience but it is your body and always your decision.

Do physiotherapists perform manipulation?

Yes, we are fully qualified to perform manipulation and use it when clinically appropriate. Jonathan Smith teaches manipulations on the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine courses he lectures on.
